Self-advocacy and supported decision-making
Everyone has the right to make decisions about their own life.
Self-advocacy and supported decision-making are approaches that provide you with the necessary supports to make your own decisions and stay in control of your life.
They build the skills and knowledge of people with disability and their supporters and can apply to all areas of decision making.
The Australian Government's Disability Gateway has a suite of resources to help inform, empower and support people with disability, their families and carers to make decisions and have those decisions respected.
To find supported decision-making resources, go to the Australian Government, Department of Social Services website.
