Childhood safety stakeholder engagement

The Department of Education and Training will continue to connect with early childhood stakeholders to discuss quality and safety.

A conversation with the Hon. Jo Hersey about child safety

In August 2025, the Minister for Early Education met with the sector to hold an open and honest discussion about child safety.

The key takeaways from this discussion are currently being used as part of national conversations to inform how we can improve child safety for NT children.

Announcements about future reforms will be made on this page.

Community of Practice for Early Childhood Key Stakeholders

On 24 October 2025, the Department of Education and Training hosted the inaugural Community of Practice for Early Childhood Key Stakeholders, bringing together nearly 50 leaders and practitioners from across the Northern Territory.

To learn more about the discussions held during this event, read the communique PDF (696.9 KB).

The Community of Practice initiative is designed to:

  • integrate early childhood stakeholders into policy conversations
  • foster shared responsibility for improving child development outcomes
  • promote equity, affordability, quality and accessibility into early childhood education and care
  • enable strategic networking and information sharing.

Participants will be provided opportunities to participate in further discussions across a range of topics through working groups as developments happen.

These engagements will be online and the next face-to-face discussion will be held in October 2026.
