Governance support for incorporated associations

As an incorporated association, you can access governance support through governance diagnostics (health checks) and practical training.

This can help your association:

  • operate effectively
  • manage risk
  • meet its legal obligations
  • build long-term sustainability.

Stronger Associations Program

The Stronger Associations Program helps Northern Territory (NT) incorporated associations strengthen governance, improve sustainability and meet obligations under the Associations Act 2003.

Through the program you can access:

  • governance health checks
  • information sessions.

Who can participate

You can participate if your association operates in the NT and is registered under the Associations Act 2003.

Governance health checks

A governance health check is an independent review of your association's governance, operations and sustainability.

The review can help you:

  • assess your association's governance and operations
  • determine whether your constitution and governing documents are fit for purpose
  • assess financial and operational sustainability
  • identify governance and compliance risks
  • strengthen decision-making and accountability
  • identify ways to improve governance and financial performance
  • get recommendations and guidance for future actions.

Health checks are delivered online and in person by program partner Matrix on Board.

Only the public officer is eligible to apply for the governance health check on behalf of the association.

To book a health check, go to the Matrix on Board website.

Governance information sessions

Free information sessions will be delivered online and in person across the NT, including regional and remote communities.

The sessions can help you build governance knowledge and skills.

Topics include:

  • governance fundamentals
  • roles and responsibilities of committee members
  • effective decision-making
  • conducting effective meetings
  • financial management and reporting
  • reviewing and updating constitutions
  • legislative and regulatory requirements.

Information sessions are delivered by program partner Treeti Business Consulting.
