Appeal a decision by a steward
If you disagree with a decision handed to you by a greyhound racing steward or club official, you may be able to appeal the decision.
Depending on the nature of the decision, you can make an appeal to either the:
- Racing Appeals Tribunal (RAT)
- Darwin Greyhound Association (DGA).
Appeal to the tribunal
You can make an appeal to the RAT for any of the following decisions:
- a fine of more than $1,000
- suspension or disqualification for more than three months
- suspension or disqualification on an animal together with a penalty imposed on a person
- warning off a person from attending a greyhound meeting for more than 12 meetings
- a fine of more than $500 together with a suspension or disqualification for longer than one month.
Appeal to the association
You can make an appeal to the DGA for any of the following decisions:
- a fine of less than $1,000
- a suspension or disqualification for less than three months
- warning off a person from attending a greyhound meeting for less than 12 meetings
- a fine of less than $500 together with a suspension or disqualification for less than one month.
What can't be appealed
You can't make an appeal for any of the following decisions:
- imposed fines on a person of $100 or less
- the eligibility of an animal to race or the conditions under which an animal can race
- disqualification or suspension of an animal from racing - except where the disqualification or suspension is in conjunction with a penalty imposed on you
- where the rules under which a decision was made prohibit an appeal from such as decision.
How to submit an appeal to the tribunal
To make an appeal to the RAT, follow these steps:
Step 1. Fill in the Racing Appeals Tribunal notice of appeal form.
Step 2. Submit the form by mail or in person.

Step 3. Pay the $200 fee at your nearest Territory Business Centre .
How to submit an appeal to the association
To make an appeal to the DGA, follow these steps:
Step 1. Write a letter of appeal. The letter should include the following:
- details of the decision
- reasons why you disagree with the decision.
Step 2. Submit your written appeal by email or in person.

After you submit an appeal
The review process will begin after you submit your notice or letter of appeal and pay the $200 fee.
