Freight Subsidy Disaster Assistance

If you’re a primary producer based in a disaster-affected Local Government Area (LGA), you may be eligible for freight subsidy disaster assistance.

This assistance is jointly funded by the Commonwealth and Northern Territory governments under the Disaster Recovery Funding Arrangements.

What you can get

Financial assistance can be used for transport freight costs associated with:

  • moving livestock out of impacted areas or bringing in replacement livestock for animals that were lost
  • delivering emergency fodder or water for livestock
  • transporting building or fencing materials, equipment and machinery.

If approved, you can get 50% of emergency freight costs up to the value of $5,000.

Primary producers impacted by the Central Australia and Barkly Region Severe Weather and Floods, February 2026, in the local government area (LGA) of:

  • Alice Springs Town Council
  • Barkly Regional Council
  • Central Desert Regional Council
  • MacDonnel Regional Council.

Primary producers impacted by Daly River Flood, February 2026, in the LGA of:

  • Victoria Daly Regional Council.

Primary producers impacted by Severe Tropical Cyclone Fina, November 2025, in the LGA of:

  • Belyuen Community Government Council
  • City of Darwin
  • City of Palmerston
  • Coomalie Community Council
  • Cox–Daly Unincorporated Area
  • Litchfield Council
  • Marrakai–Douglas Daly Unincorporated Area
  • Tiwi Islands Regional CouncilVictoria
  • Daly Regional Council
  • Wagait Shire Council
  • West Arnhem Regional Council
  • West Daly Regional Council.
