Drinking water in Nyirripi and Alpurrurulam
The drinking water in Nyirripi and Alpurrurulam is bore water and comes from the ground.
This means the tap water has lots of natural minerals in it from rocks including fluoride.
The Power and Water Corporation (PWC) have measured the fluoride at 1.6mg/L.
They test the water in all communities.
Who can drink the water
The tap water is safe to drink if you're 13 years and older and not pregnant.
If you are pregnant or 12 years or younger, you should drink bottled water.
The PWC is giving free bottled water to houses and schools.
Anyone can use the tap water for washing dishes, cooking, and showering.
This is in line with the Australian drinking water guidelines.
