Mobility aids and equipment
The Territory Equipment Program (TEP) helps people who need prescribed equipment, aids and appliances so they can continue to participate in everyday activities.
The service gives access to equipment for eligible people.
Access to the program
Approved health professionals can apply for equipment on behalf of their clients.
The person receiving the equipment must:
- have a functional impairment of permanent or long term duration
- be a permanent resident of the NT
- be living in or returning to live in the community
- be needing equipment that costs more than $100
- require items of approved equipment on a permanent or long term basis
- not be eligible to receive equipment from alternative sources such as through MACA, Aged Care, NDIS, DVA
- be beneficiaries of a full Centrelink Disability Support or Aged Pension.
Eligibility may vary for children, NDIS eligible clients and existing clients prior to 8 April 2013.
Types of equipment that can be requested
There is an approved equipment list across the categories of:
- communication aids and devices
- aids for daily living
- bed equipment
- pressure management equipment
- wheeled mobility aids
- ambulant mobility aids
- personal emergency response system (PERS)
- home modifications
- continence aids
- oxygen.
Maintenance of equipment
NT Health maintains responsibility for repairs and scheduled maintenance while clients are responsible for regular cleaning and care.
The equipment remains the property of NT Health unless it's otherwise agreed. It must be returned when no longer required.
Cost
Equipment that meets your assessed needs will be funded. If you would like equipment that goes beyond what is prescribed, you may need to help cover the cost.
