Nutrition
Public health nutritionists (PHN) provide a free service to promote healthy living, this can include support with:
- weight
- chronic disease
- growth
- food allergies
- intolerances
- gastrointestinal health.
Who can access the service
Referrals are accepted for:
- infants
- children
- adults
- community groups or organisation.
Some group programs may be available depending on your region.
Community groups or organisations
The team can also assist community group or organisation with:
- staff training in nutrition
- menu planning
- supporting health promotion activities through nutrition or physical activity
- group or family education sessions.
Community groups and organisations can include:
- schools
- childcare services
- aged care facilities
- general food stores
- takeaway shops.
How to access
Check the referral process for inclusions and exclusions in your region below.
Groups or organisations can make a self referral, your group will be assessed based on need and the teams current capacity.
The Darwin, Palmerston and rural team accepts referrals from your doctor or healthcare providers.
You cannot be referred to the service if you:
- have stage 3 to 5 chronic kidney disease
- are diabetic
- are eligible for NDIS funding
- are under the prison health service
- are not eligible for Medicare
- are eligible for a chronic disease care plan and don't have a centre link concession card.
