Royal Darwin Hospital renal unit
The renal ward at Royal Darwin Hospital is on the 7th floor and has 3 areas:
- a ward
- haemodialysis unit
- transplant unit.
The medical team includes a renal:
- Aboriginal liaison officer
- care co-ordinator
- social worker.
Renal ward
The 14 bed ward provides:
- renal investigations
- acute admissions
- access problems
- renal surgery
- peritoneal dialysis
- creation and revision of Arterio Venous Fistulas (AVF)
- insertion of temporary and tunnelled lines
- Tenckhoff catheter insertions.
Haemodialysis unit
The 6 chair haemodialysis unit caters for:
- acute
- chronic
- end stage renal failure.
- plasma exchange
- inpatient dialysis
- introduction and education for new patients
- patients with complex medical or social issues needing intensive multidisciplinary involvement.
Transplant unit
The unit cares for post-transplant patients and prepares patients for renal replacement.
Opening hours
7 days a week from 7am to 9:30pm.
With an after-hours on call service.
