Renal nutrition and dietetics
Renal dietitians are healthcare professionals who help people with kidney disease manage their condition.
They provide specialised support and advice around nutrition and which foods keep you well.
The teams travel to provide services across the Northern Territory as well as through teleconferencing.
Access the service
There are renal dietitian teams for:
- Top End, Big Rivers and East Arnhem
- Central Australia and Barkly.

Outpatient referrals can only be made by health professional.
Inpatient referrals can be made by hospital staff.
Eligibility
You can be referred to the service if you:
- are an adult
- have stage 4-5 chronic kidney disease
- are on any form of dialysis
- are within 1 year of a kidney transplantation.

To access the services you must be under the care of a nephrologist or renal team.
Referrals can be emailed or made by NT Health staff through the internal referral form.
The service accepts referrals for both children and adults and can provide appointments for:
- individuals
- groups
- multidisciplinary teams.
