When you are owed bond money
When you move out of a rental property your bond money must be returned to you in full unless the landlord has claims for any of the following:
- unpaid rent
- cleaning
- repair costs
- lease break.
Read more about security deposits/bonds.
Moving out
You should talk to your landlord or agent when you move out so you know what costs may be deducted.
Leave your new address or your banking details so the bond can be sent to you once any outstanding work has been completed.
Unclaimed bond
If you don't claim your bond within six months, it will be transferred to The Tenancy Trust account managed by the Commissioner of Tenancies.
You may not have received your money for any of the following reasons:
- the cheque has not been cashed
- you have not given contact details or a forwarding address
- you did not give bank account details to your previous landlord or agent.
Find your bond
If you have not received the bond money owed to you after six months you should:
- ask the landlord or agent
- check online at the NT Consumer Affairs website to see if your bond is being held in trust.
