Tuna longtail
Scientific name
Thunnus tonggol.
Where they live
Tuna longtail are a predominantly neritic species found to inhabit relatively shallow parts of the ocean above the drop-off of the continental shelf to approximately 200m in depth.
They avoid turbid waters and areas with reduced salinity such as estuaries.
Tuna longtail may form schools of varying size offshore.
Size and age
Have been known to grow to 145cm and weigh in at 36kg.
