Scientific name

Lutjanus sebae.

Where they live

Red emperor adults are found in the vicinity of coral or rocky reefs, sand flats and gravel patches and in deep waters to depths of 180m. 

Juveniles can also be found swimming amongst the spines of urchins in shallow coastal bays. 

Juveniles are common in turbid waters, mangrove areas or among both coastal and deeper water offshore reefs.

Size and age

Have been known to grow to 116cm, weigh in at 33kg and live to 40 years.

Fishing tips

Baited hook and have been known to chase lures.
