Rockcod goldspotted
Scientific name
Epinephelus coioides.
Where they live
Rockcod goldspotted inhabit turbid coastal reefs and are often found in brackish water over mud and rubble.
Juveniles are common in shallow waters of estuaries over sand, mud and gravel and among mangroves.
All cods and gropers greater than 120cm are protected species and must be released unharmed.
Size and age
Rockcod goldspotted can grow to 120cm, weigh in at 15kg and have been reported to live for 22 years.
Fishing tips
Baited hook and have been known to chase lures.
