Trevally giant
Scientific name
Caranx ignobilis.
Where they live
Trevally giant are pelagic over sand and rock.
Adults occur singly and inhabit clear lagoon and seaward reefs. They feed on crustaceans and fishes at night.
Juveniles are found in estuaries.
Size and age
They are known to grow to 170cm and weigh up to 80kg.
Fishing tips
Larger species will need heavy line and a heavy mono trace as they tend to rush for reefs and other structures to get rid of the hook.
