Register a hairdressing, beauty therapy or body art business
If you are opening a hairdressing, beauty therapy or body art business you must register your business.
You must do this at least one month before opening.
Before you apply
You must contact the Development Assessment Services and Building Advisory Services to find out if permits and/or approvals are needed for your premises.
Documents you will need
If your business uses water from a private supply, you must attach your microbiological test result and your chemical test result.
Development and building approvals
You must contact the Development Assessment Services and the Building Advisory Services to find out if permits and/or approvals are needed for the premises.
You may need to provide your:
- development permit number
- a certificate of occupancy for the property from Building Advisory Services.
Drawings and building plans
You will need to provide a scaled drawing of the premises, including treatment rooms and ablution facilities.
If the premises is newly constructed you should submit building plans.
You must include details of all of the following:
- the number of treatment/procedure rooms
- number of work areas per treatment/procedure room
- number of wash hand basins.
How to register
Step 1. Get the form to register a hairdressing, beauty therapy or body art business.
Step 2. Pay the fee.
Step 3. Submit your application and any supporting documents.
If you pay by mail or in person you can submit your application to the Receiver of Territory Monies (RTM).
If you pay over the phone you must submit your application to your nearest Environmental Health office.
