Advertise a sexual services business

If you operate a sexual services business in the Northern Territory (NT), you must follow advertising guidelines.

Advertising should be kept simple to avoid offending children or other members of the public.

Where you can advertise

You can advertise in the classifieds section of a newspaper.

The NT News does not allow website addresses and email addresses in its advertisements.

Where to list your newspaper advertisement

Advertisements must appear under one of the following headings:

  • adult services
  • adult entertainment.

Newspaper advertisement restrictions

Sexual services business advertisements must:

  • be no larger than 3.5cm x 4.5cm and
  • appear in the 'classifieds' section using one of the headings above or similar.

The advertisement must not:

  • contain photographic or other imagery of a person, whether real or symbolic, unless it is restricted to the head and shoulders
  • refer to the race, colour or ethnic origin of the person offering sex work or:
    • refer to any of these in the name of a sex services business
  • refer to the age of the person offering sex work
  • refer to the physical attributes of the person offering sex work or
    • refer to personal physical attributes in the name of a sex services business
  • refer to 'massage' or 'masseur', or other parts of speech or grammatical forms of those words unless preceded by the word 'erotic.

Advertising for sex workers

You cannot publish, or cause to be published, an advertisement that is likely to persuade someone to seek employment as a sex worker.
