Lithology:

Igneous, metamorphic and sedimentary: felsic and mafic gneiss, granite, charnockite, minor metasedimentary gneiss. Localised rift sediments and bimodal volcanics.

1600 Ma.

Summary:

A Mesoproterozoic basement province that includes mafic, felsic and metasedimentary gneiss, voluminous granite, and a late Mesoproterozoic rift succession with bimodal volcanics.

Relationship:

Unconformably overlain by, and is faulted against Neoproterozoic to Palaeozoic Amadeus Basin to the north and Palaeozoic Pedirka and Mesozoic Eromanga basins to the east.

Thickness:

N/A.

Economic:

Hosts minor base metal and gold occurrences. Significant nickel, copper, cobalt and PGE mineralisation occurs in adjacent regions of Western Australia.

Metamorphism:

Granulite to greenschist facies.
