Apply for good driving behaviour option

If you reach your demerit points limit for your driver licence type, your licence will be suspended.

Instead of completing a suspension period, you may be eligible for the 12-month good driving behaviour option if you:

  • hold a current NT driver licence, and
  • apply for the good driving behaviour option before your suspension period starts.

How to apply

You must apply at least seven days before the start date of your suspension period. This start date is on your suspension notice.

You must follow the steps below.

Step 1. Fill in the L12 nomination of demerit points option form PDF (726.3 KB)

Step 2. Submit the completed form to an MVR office.

Conditions

If you accumulate two or more demerit points while serving a good driving behaviour period, your driver licence will be suspended for double the original suspension time.

If another disqualification or suspension starts while you are on a good driving behaviour period, the 12-month period will stop and won't restart until the other disqualification or suspension period ends.
