Ministerial notices under the Territory Coordinator Act 2025
The Minister for Territory Coordinator may issue notices under the Territory Coordinator Act 2025 to:
- designate or revoke a significant project
- declare or revoke an Infrastructure Coordination Area (ICA)
- approve, vary or revoke an Infrastructure Coordination Plan (ICP)
- declare, vary or revoke a Territory Development Area (TDA)
- approve, vary or revoke a Territory Development Area Plan (TDAP)
- approve a program of works.
The minister may issue a request or notice in relation to a designated, declared or approved project, area or works, this includes:
- prioritisation requests - requesting the responsible entity give priority to undertaking the statutory process over any other matter subject to the same process
- progression requests - requesting the responsible entity start, pause, continue, or complete a statutory process within the specified period
- decision requests - requesting the responsible entity for a statutory decision make a specified decision within the specified period
- step-in notices - minister or Territory Coordinator becomes the decision maker under a relevant law for a defined process
- exemption notices - to modify or exclude the application of the relevant law, or a provision of it, for the purposes of the decision being made or the process being undertaken
- condition variation notices - to vary the conditions imposed on a statutory decision.
Territory Coordinator
The Territory Coordinator is an independent statutory officer appointed by the Administrator of the Northern Territory.
The role focuses on streamlining assessment processes and supporting strategic planning to help the Territory:
- attract major investments
- drive growth
- create jobs.
