Darwin childbirth education

There are several education classes available at the Royal Darwin Hospital for pregnancy, childbirth and parenting.

One day classes are free for all women attending any of the following and birthing in the Royal Darwin Hospital:

  • antenatal clinic
  • shared care
  • midwives clinic
  • obstetric clinic.

One day workshops classes are on Saturdays from 9am to 3.30pm.

Topics include the following:

  • how labour starts, managing early labour at home
  • labour and active birth
  • pain management
  • normal labour and how it can change
  • when to go to hospital, when in labour
  • first days with the new baby
  • introduction to breastfeeding
  • parenting support
  • recovery after birth
  • what to take to hospital.

Birth after caesarean classes

Maternity Services at Royal Darwin Hospital offer regular birth after caesarean information sessions.

In these sessions you can:

  • ask questions
  • discuss options for care
  • get midwifery support
  • share experiences with other women.

Childbirth Education Association Darwin

Classes for pregnant women and partners for a holistic education approach for pregnancy, labour and birth and parenting support. There are five education sessions over five weeks including a dedicated breastfeeding discussion.
