Wastewater works design approval

Wastewater works design approval is required for the following:

  • wastewater systems that provide a minimum of secondary treatment servicing buildings other than a single residential dwelling
  • use recycled water to irrigate food crops
  • composting or hybrid toilet systems servicing buildings other than a single residential dwelling
  • community wastewater management systems
  • waste stabilisation ponds.

How to apply

To apply for wastewater works design approval follow these steps:

Step 1. Fill in the form for the type system you want to install:

Step 2. Submit supporting documents. This could include a cover letter and overview, site plan, soil test results or other documents, depending on your application.

Step 3. Pay the fee and submit your form.

Step 4. When your project is finished, you must fill in a notification of completion. You must submit the form to the Department of Health using the contact details provided.

Make changes to your design

You will need to apply if you want to make a change to your design after approval. Follow these steps:

Step 1. Fill in the form for the type of system you want to change:

Step 2. Submit supporting documents. This could include details of your system, land capability assessment and soil test results, and site plans.

Step 3. Pay the fee and submit your form.

Step 4. When your project is finished,you must fill in a notification of completion. You must submit the form to the Department of Health using the details provided.
