Exceptional development permits

An exceptional development permit may be granted by the Minister for Infrastructure, Planning and Logistics to allow a use otherwise prohibited under the Northern Territory Planning Scheme, or another planning scheme.

How to apply

Follow these steps to apply for an exceptional development permit or a variation to a permit:

Step 1. Read the exceptional development permit guide to attachments

Step 2. Go to the development applications online website

Step 3. Pay the fee. To find out how to and much you will need to pay, read about development and planning fees and forms: online services and fees.

Application process

Once submitted, the application process is the same as for the planning scheme amendment process.

You can view the proposed exceptional development permit applications currently on exhibition on the development applications online website.

How to comment

Submit your comments on a proposed application using the Development Applications Online website, or by email, post or fax.

You will be sent an invitation by email or post to attend any hearings held about the application.

Once the minister has made a decision, you will be informed about the outcome of the application.
