Getaway discovers the many delights of Darwin
Channel Nine’s travel and lifestyle show Getaway have spent the past week in Darwin filming travel stories to air in early 2020. During the Darwin shoot Getaway presenter Lauren Phillips came face to face with the world’s largest reptile, diving in the Crocosaurus Cove’s Cage of Death, with the segment also featuring Crocosaurus Cove’s Big Croc Feed show and Fishing for Crocs activities
Fascinating new research shows saltwater crocodiles that are captured and relocated can find their way home - with one swimming 900km in 6 months back to where it was originally caught! The only thing that stops them in their tracks? Cobourg Peninsula.The recently released research has found the Cobourg Peninsula strongly influences the movement and dispersal of saltwater crocodiles (Crocodylus porosus) in the Top End.
A historic Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed in Jabiru will secure the town’s future as the tourism heartland of the World Heritage Listed Kakadu National Park. The Northern Territory Government, Australian Government, Energy Resources of Australia and Traditional Owners from the Gundjeihmi Aboriginal Corporation (GAC) joined for the signing of the MoU, which will support the town’s transition from a mining town to a tourist town.
Ship lift floats the Territory’s boat
The NT Government will build the largest ship lift in Northern Australia. A ship lift is used to lift vessels out of the water so they can be serviced, repaired or stored, including for safety during cyclones. The planned 103m facility will be capable of servicing large vessels from industries including offshore petroleum, fishing, pearling, Defence and Border Force.
The pilot and crew that successfully flew from London to Darwin to win the Great Air Race in 1919 now feature in a large-scale street art mural in the Territory’s capital, as part of a new program of events to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the ‘race that changed the world’.
New app for easy reporting of anti-social behaviour
The Northern Territory Government and Larrakia Nation are trialling an app for reporting anti-social behaviour in Darwin and Palmerston. The trial will run for six weeks and the free app can be downloaded from the App Store or Google Play.
