More visitors are travelling to the Northern Territory and they’re spending more during their stay, latest figures from Tourism Research Australia reveal.

Close to two million domestic and international visitors spent $2.5 billion in the year ending June 2019.

The figures include those on holiday, visiting friends and relatives, business travellers and others.

Business visitors to the Territory represented the biggest growth with an increase of 33 per cent.

The two top national visitor markets, with a combined expenditure of $681 million, were NSW and Queensland, while the top international markets were Japan and the US.

Data confirms visitor increases from each of these four markets, most significantly Japan, which had a 56 per cent jump in visitor numbers.
