Join Owen Springs Reserve rangers for a free 4WD tour
Members of the public are invited to join the Parks and Wildlife Commission NT (PWCNT) Owen Springs Reserve rangers for a guided 4WD tour around the reserve on Picnic Day, Monday 1 August.
PWCNT Senior Ranger Sheridan Martin said the public were invited to join the scenic tour from 1pm until 6pm, which is being held to celebrate World Ranger Day on 31 July.
Ms Martin said participants of the 4WD tour will be joined by a local ranger who will share their knowledge of the reserve, its fascinating and rich history and management.
“The tour will visit numerous points of interest through the reserve, give participants a chance to explore the reserves highlights and provide great photo opportunities along the way,” she said.
“You’ll need to have a high clearance 4WD and a camera is recommended as wildflowers are now in bloom, putting on a great display through the reserve.”
The ranger-guided tour is free and bookings are essential with strictly limited numbers. To secure your place call the Alice Springs Parks and Wildlife office on 8951 8250. Joining instructions will be given on booking.
Ms Martin said PWCNT were looking for special ways to celebrate World Ranger Day and were excited about getting visitors involved in the celebration.
“World Ranger day is celebrated annually on 31 July 31 to support rangers around the globe.
“The day recognises the hard work rangers do to protect the world’s natural and cultural treasures. The day also commemorates rangers who have lost their lives or are injured in the line of duty,” Ms Martin said.
Owen Springs Reserve is 60km south west of Alice Springs. The reserve provides an outback 4WD experience, a quiet bush setting for camping without facilities and ideal picnicking and bird watching opportunities.
