Nominations for the 2016 Northern Territory Volunteer of the Year Awards are open and close on Thursday 21 April 2016.

Many sporting, recreational, cultural and emergency response organisations in the Territory could not exist without the work of volunteers.

The recent flooding in Nauiyu (Daly River) community highlighted how important volunteers are to the community and this is an opportunity to reflect on their contributions and their role in delivering important services to other Territorians.

The Volunteer of the Year Awards are a collaborative activity between the NT Government and Volunteering SA&NT.

There are five categories:

  • The Chief Minister's Medal for Volunteering Achievement
  • The Chief Minister's Medal for Volunteering Service
  • The Chief Minister's Medal for Emergency Service
  • Volunteering SA&NT Award for Organisational Excellence (Small Organisation)
  • Volunteering SA&NT Award for Organisational Excellence (Large Organisation)

Each organisation is also able to select one volunteer within their organisation to receive a Certificate of Appreciation as recognition of their contribution.
