Scientific name

Epinephelus quoyanus.

Where they live

Rockcod longfin cod are commonly found inhabiting inshore reefs, with no records of this species from depths greater than 50m. 

They feed on shrimps, small fishes, worms and crabs. 

Their enlarged fleshy pectoral fins is believed to have resulted from its habits of sitting on the substrate where they live.

All cods and gropers greater than 120cm are protected species and must be released unharmed.

Size and age

Have been known to only grow up to 50cm and their life span is unknown.

Baited hook squid or mullet.
