Working with children in the arts

You must hold a working with children clearance notice, also called an Ochre Card, if you want to work with children in the Northern Territory (NT).

Rules for working with children

If you work with children you must follow Australia Council for the Arts rules about working with children.

Go to the Australia Council for the Arts website to read the rules.

You must also follow all of these rules both about how you work with and how you show children in art works, exhibitions and publications:

  • the rights of children must be protected in your art
  • you must tell all children in your project what the project involves, how they will participate and what the outcome will be
  • artworks with images of children must be presented with due care and sensitivity
  • images of children must not be exploited.

Go to the Arts Law Centre of Australia website for more about working with children.
