Petroleum titles advertising, notices and searches

This page has information about advertising and notices published under the Petroleum Act 1984 or Petroleum (Submerged Lands) Act 1981 and how to search for titles and dealings.


The department publishes notices in the Northern Territory (NT) Government Gazette announcing the grant, renewal or cessation of a petroleum title.

Notices are also made where land is reserved from being the subject of a grant of a petroleum exploration permit or licence.

The department advertises all applications for the grant of a petroleum exploration permit.

Advertisements appear in the NT Government Gazette, NT News and the Koori Mail.


You can obtain details of granted petroleum titles and dealings in the NT through the petroleum register.

Extracts of the register and associated documents are available for a fee.

How to search

If you want to conduct a search of the register you can either:

  • search in person at the Energy Titles Unit by emailing to arrange a time to access the register
  • request a search by email by completing the search request form and emailing the form to - you will receive a quote for the cost of the search by email within two to three business days.
