Assessing your mineral title application

When your mineral title application has been received, it will be checked to ensure:

  • all the relevant information has been provided
  • the appropriate fee has been paid
  • you have demonstrated the financial capacity to carry out the project
  • you have demonstrated the technical expertise or access to the appropriate people
  • you have detailed the proposed activities during the grant period
  • how and whether you have met the conditions of any existing titles you hold.

Each application is assessed by department staff, and you may be requested to provide additional information.

Applications in conflict

When 2 or more applications are made for a mineral title over the same area and on the same day, they have equal priority and are determined on their merits.

Factors taken into account to determine the successful application include:

  • proposed work programs
  • financial and technical resources
  • past history of compliance with conditions of current or past titles held.

Acceptance or refusal

If your application is accepted at lodgement, it will proceed through the assessment process towards grant.

If the Minister for Mining and Industry decides to grant the application, you will get an offer of grant in writing from the department

If your application is not accepted at lodgement, you will be told the reasons why.

Examples of why this might happen include:

  • area not available
  • no payment details provided
  • application is incomplete.
