On 1 October 2019, liquor laws changed in the Northern Territory (NT).

This page has information for liquor licence holders about making permanent changes to licence conditions.
When to apply for a permanent variation
You must apply for a permanent variation if you want to:
- change your trading hours
- remove the 'liquor with a meal' licence condition
- change your licence category - for example, from restaurant to tavern
- make a variation to a licensed area - for example, by creating a beer garden or al fresco dining area outside the venue.
For non-permanent changes to your liquor licence conditions, such as for a special event, apply for a temporary variation.
For non-cosmetic changes to the inside or outside of your venue apply for a material alteration.
How to apply
To apply for a permanent variation to a liquor licence follow these steps:

Northern region premises
You can send your form by email to LRASComplianceDWN.DOB@nt.gov.au or fax to (08) 8999 7498.
Southern region premises
You can send your form by email to LRASComplianceASP.DOB@nt.gov.au or fax to (08) 8951 5112.
After you apply
The Director-General will tell you if you need to place an advertisement, and in which publication to advertise.
If a variation is approved
The Director-General will send you a decision notice. If your variation is approved, it will take effect on the date specified by the Director-General.
If your variation is refused
The Director-General will send you a decision notice. If your variation is refused you must not make the permanent variation.
