Licence to sell alcohol at functions

Northern Territory (NT) residents can apply for a special liquor licence to sell liquor at functions.

One-off special liquor licence

You must submit your application for a special liquor licence at least 28 days before your event, or three months before if it is a major event.

Before you apply

Before you apply for a licence to sell liquor at functions, you must:

  • understand your responsibilities as a special liquor licence holder
  • understand responsible service of alcohol practices
  • be prepared to provide details of the venue site, neighbourhood, crowd control and target audience.

How to apply

To apply for a one-off special licence to sell liquor follow these steps:

Step 1. Fill in the sell liquor at functions form (70.5 kb).
Step 2. Check the special liquor licence fee.
Step 3. Submit your form at your nearest Territory Business Centre.

Continuing special liquor licences

Continuing special liquor licences are usually granted to the following groups:

  • workplace social clubs
  • sporting groups
  • non-profit associations.

Applicants that wish to use a licence as a profit-making venture must apply for a full liquor licence.

Before you apply

You must complete a responsible service of alcohol course.

How to apply

You will need to apply for a criminal history name check.

You need to fill in the following form:

You will also need to pay an administration fee.

You can submit your application at your nearest Territory Business Centre.
