Defence community

Government support

The Northern Territory Government hosts and sponsors a variety of events throughout the year for the Defence community.

Welcome expos

The Defence Welcome Expos held in Darwin and Katherine help introduce newly arrived Defence members and families to services and lifestyle opportunities available in the Territory.

Welcome reception

Each year, a reception is held at Parliament House for Defence personnel and partners newly posted to Darwin.

This event marks the official welcome of the new arrivals by our community and provides an opportunity to meet with each other.

Community road show

The Defence community road show visits interstate RAAF bases and career advisors to encourage and promote the benefits of a posting in the Northern Territory.

Visits include RAAF Base Amberley and RAAF Base Williamtown, the two main locations that post out to RAAF Base Tindal.

This is a partner project between NT Government and the Defence Community Organisation.

Veterans support

The Northern Territory Veterans' Affairs Ministerial Advisory Council advises to the Northern Territory Government on supporting Defence veterans and their families living in the Territory.

Chief Minister's Anzac Spirit Study Tour

The Chief Minister's Anzac Spirit Study Tour gives Territory students in Year 9 and 10 the opportunity to visit overseas battlefields of significance to Australia and the Anzacs.

The annual competition helps young Territorians explore the relevance of the Anzac spirit in today's society and helps build an appreciation for Australia's Defence Forces.
