Strategic Aboriginal Water Reserves

Aboriginal Water Reserves

The Strategic Aboriginal Water Reserves policy framework provides Aboriginal landowners with increased opportunity to access water resources for economic development.

Strategic Aboriginal Water Reserves are a reserved volume of water from the consumptive pool within a Water Allocation Plan area exclusively accessible to Aboriginal landowners to use or trade.

The Strategic Aboriginal Water Reserve policy framework sets out how Aboriginal Water Reserves can be adopted in current and new water allocation plans of the Northern Territory.

Early 2017, NT Government consulted with stakeholders on a proposed operating model and alternative policies.
