Introduction

All number plates must be approved by the Registrar of Motor Vehicles and issued by the MVR. Any other number plates are illegal.

The permission to display number plates on your vehicle in the Northern Territory (NT) is called the right to display.

You will be given a general issue plate unless you want to apply for personalised plates.

You hold the right to display your number plates for 12 months after your registration expires.

If you don't fit your plates to your registered vehicle for more than 12 months, your right to display returns to the MVR and the number plates will be available for other customers to order.
