Apply or cancel heavy vehicle upgrade

You can apply to upgrade your heavy vehicle configuration and maintain its registration.

You can also cancel this application and revert back to your vehicle's original configuration.

Before you apply

You must apply before operating your heavy vehicle with an upgraded configuration.

You will need to fill in and submit an R12 form application to upgrade a heavy vehicle configuration (181.4 kb) to the MVR.

The vehicle must only be used within the legal mass limits for that type of heavy vehicle. You can't drive the vehicle with its new configuration until the application has been processed and paid for.

How to apply

You can apply by any of the methods below. 

Email

Email your completed application form to mvr@nt.gov.au.

You can pay the application fee by phone 1300 654 628 using Visa or MasterCard.

In person

You can submit your application in person at a MVR office and pay your fee by cash, cheque, EFTPOS, Visa or MasterCard.

Send your application and cheque or money order to:

You can also pay the application fee by calling 1300 654 628 using Visa or MasterCard once your application form has been received. 

How to cancel

Fill in and submit an M5 form application to cancel an upgrade of a heavy vehicle configuration (253.0 kb) to the MVR.
