Conditions on your heavy vehicle licence

You can have conditions added to your heavy vehicle class licence.

Glasses or lenses required to drive (XR)

You must wear corrective lenses at all times while driving a commercial vehicle or a vehicle greater than eight tonnes. This is applied when you need corrective lenses to pass the eye test to commercial vehicle driver standards.

Must drive automatic heavy vehicles only (XU)

You must only drive a heavy vehicle of class HR or above that is fitted with an automatic transmission. You can only have this condition removed if you retake your heavy vehicle driving test in a vehicle fitted with another transmission type.

Synchromesh transmission (B)

You must only drive a heavy vehicle requiring a Class HR, HC or MC licence if fitted with a synchromesh or automatic transmission.
