Coach development

The Workforce Development Unit will support peak sporting bodies, active recreation organisations, regional councils and other stakeholders to develop and implement their organisation’s coaching development strategies.

Organisations seeking financial support to develop whole of sport strategies for casual, committed and leadership volunteer/helpers should review the Workforce Development Grants and contact the Workforce Development Unit to discuss their needs.

For individual volunteer coaches the Workforce Development Unit will be providing learning and development sessions that complement their sport specific skills.

Online resources

Community Coaching Essential Skills Course offered by the Australian Sports Commission (ASC) at no cost. The course is designed for new or existing coaches to plan, engage and deliver quality environments for participants who are eager to learn or play social sport.

Balance is Better- The home of youth sport in New Zealand offers webinars, philosophy guideline, articles, athlete stories, parent information, sport leaders and administrators information.

UK Coaching - supports the United Kingdom’s 3 million coaches by delivering better practice, training, research and industry standards across sports, communities and national governing bodies of sport. It has basic resources for free and more resources behind a paywall.

Coaching Association of Canada has a suite of coaching resources that will assist the practicing coach develop and implement their skills training and development sessions.

Clearinghouse for Sport brings together Australia’s leading sport and active recreation agencies – using the Australian Sports Commission as the principal information coordination point – to share news, evidence and insights about sport and human performance.

Local Sporting Champions program provides financial assistance for coaches, officials and competitors aged 12-18 participating in state, national or international championships.

Local Para Champions program provides financial assistance for coaches, officials and competitors aged 12-24 participating in state, national or international championships for athletes with a disability.

Women Leaders in Sport is designed to support women to access professional development opportunities, develop specialist skills and enhance existing skills in areas specific to their stage in the sport leadership journey.

Leadership programs for women in high performance sport- The Australian Institute of Sport (AIS) and Sport Australia, with support from the Australian Government and Office for Women, is delivering this to support women in coaching and executive roles in high performance sport.

AIS Elevate Learning Grants Program is designed to support the professional development and education of Performance Pathway Leads/Managers, coaches and practitioners who are working directly with Australia's most talented athletes of the future.
