Observe all safety signs
- Swim only where recommended, observe warning signs
- Be aware of Crocodile safety (pdf 83Kb) in the Top End
- Carry and drink plenty of water
- Wear a shady hat, sunscreen and insect repellant
- Wear suitable clothing and footwear
- Carry a first aid kit
- Protect yourself from tropical disease (further information)
- Avoid strenuous activity during the heat of the day
- Notify a responsible person of your route and intended time of return,
register if required
- Ensure your vehicle is well maintained and equipped
- Familiarise yourself with boating conditions and safety requirements
- Remember to lock your vehicle and keep valuables in a safe place
- Put your rubbish in the bin or take it away with you
- Keep to designated roads and tracks
- Check that your vehicle is not transporting weeds and unwanted animals
- Remember all cultural items and wildlife are protected. Don't feed
native animals
- Pets are not permitted in most parks, contact a regional office for
further information
- Nets, traps and firearms are not permitted
- Take care with fire, light fires only in fireplaces provided. Take
a gas BBQ in case there is a total fire ban
- Collection of firewood may not be permitted in some parks and campgrounds,
so collect fallen timber before you arrive
- Avoid using soaps and detergent in or near waterways
- Camp only in designated camping areas
- Observe all fishing regulations
