Support Vehicle Access

Please note: It is preferable that groups have one support vehicle and one passenger only (the driver) to alleviate overcrowding at Trailheads and to reduce the potential impact on other walkers.

1 Wallaby Gap 2WD (gravel road) No

Pick up, drop off and resupply only.

Key required to access Wallaby Gap. Contact the Tourism Central Australia Visitor Centre to borrow a key.

1/2 Simpsons Gap 2WD

No (see alternative option)

Vehicles can be left in the Simpsons Gap carpark overnight and support vehicle driver can walk to the Larapinta Trail campsite and camp with walkers.
2/3 Jay Creek High Clearance 4WD

No (see alternative option)

Support vehicle can drive to the park boundary (locked gate) and walkers can walk to the vehicle to camp or the driver can walk in and camp with walkers at the Trailhead (approximately 1km).
3/4 Standley Chasm 2WD Yes Privately owned and operated. Contact Standley Chasm to make arrangements.
4/5 Birthday Waterhole High Clearance 4WD Yes

Vehicle based camping permitted at Birthday Waterhole only.

Vehicle based camping restricted to one support vehicle and one passenger (the driver).

Walkers can walk to Birthday Waterhole and join driver or driver can walk to Section 4/5 junction and camp with walkers (approximately 1km).

5/6 Hugh Gorge High Clearance 4WD Yes Vehicle based camping restricted to one support vehicle and one passenger (the driver).
6/7 Ellery Creek 2WD (gravel road) Yes Vehicle based camping permitted at the Ellery Creek campground (camping fees apply).
7/8 Serpentine Gorge 2WD (gravel road) No

Support vehicle can be parked overnight at the Serpentine Gorge carpark. Driver can walk to the Larapinta Trail campsite and camp with walkers.

No camping permitted at the Serpentine Gorge carpark.

8/9 Serpentine Chalet Dam 4WD to the carpark or 2WD to Serpentine Chalet Bush Camp. No (see alternative options)

Walkers can walk from the Trailhead to the carpark and camp with support vehicle or driver can walk in and camp at Trailhead (approximately 750m).

Alternatively support vehicle and driver can camp at Serpentine Chalet Bush Camp.

9/10 Ormiston Gorge 2WD Yes Support vehicle must park in the day use carpark or in the vehicle based camping area (camping fees apply).
10/11 Finke River

No vehicle access to Trailhead.

2WD access to Glen Helen Resort.

High Clearance 4WD access to Finke River Two-Mile

No (see alternative options

No support vehicle access to Trailhead, however walkers can walk to Glen Helen Resort or driver can walk to the Trailhead (approximately 4km).

Glen Helen Resort is privately owned and operated. Contact direct to make accommodation arrangements.

Finke River Two-Mile camping area is situated on the dry bed of the Finke River. Walkers can follow the Finke River approximately 2km south/downstream of the Trailhead to meet up with their support vehicle at Finke River Two-Mile.

11/12 Redbank Gorge 4WD recommended No (see alternative options) Camping is not permitted in the carpark, however vehicle based camping is available at the Woodland or Ridgetop campsites (camping fees apply).
