Permits
Commercial Activities
National Parks are one of the Northern Territory’s main tourist
attractions, and are also highly utilised by locals. All NT National
Parks excepting Kakadu and Uluru are managed by the Parks and Wildlife
Service.
To ensure that visitors to these parks have access to appropriate facilities and can enjoy a range of activities on National Parks, the Parks and Wildlife Service permits private businesses to conduct nature-based commercial operations on Parks, provided that these are consistent with identified conservation objectives.
Most permits for commercial activities are provided under By-law 13 of the Territory Parks and Wildlife Conservation By-laws.
Commercial activities are defined as either:
- Major Concessions – which involve large-scale operations and investment, such as a resort development; or
- Minor Concessions – which involve smaller-scale operations such as provision of refreshment kiosks, guided walks and talks, cultural activities, boating tours and so on.
To find out more about commercial activities on National Parks please read Concessions Information Sheet (Word 130 Kb).
