How to find us
The 42 hectares of Botanic Gardens are about 2 kilometres north of the Darwin Business District. Near the lower entrance of Gardens Road you can find the water fountain, floral displays, the Wesleyan Church, playground, barbecues and toilets. An alternative entry and carpark is via Geranium Street, which leads to the Orientation Centre and Office.

Road Works in the Botanic Gardens
The Primary Loop and boardwalk will be completed by end of November.
Works will include:
- A new universal access footpath linking the Orientation Centre at the top of the escarpment to the bottom road near the fountain pond.
Unfortunately there will be some inconvenience to visitors as conditions on these roads and paths will change, and access will be restricted at times.
Take heed of temporary signage, be aware of moving heavy machinery and be particularly vigilant if you have small children in your care.

What to see and do
A network of paths will connect the main features in the Gardens.
It is advisable to wear a hat, sunscreen, suitable footwear and insect repellent.
Drinking water fountains are located throughout the Gardens. There is a drink machine in the Orientation Centre which provides assorted beverages aswell as a drinking fountain.
Visitors are most welcome to bring food into the Gardens as we currently don't have any food facilities available.

Plant Display House
Contains a collection of tropical orchids, bromeliads, other exotic plants and special seasonal displays. Open every day from 7:30am - 3:30pm.
Cycads
Cycads are grown throughout the gardens. Collections of Northern Territory, Australian and International cycads are displayed near the Geranium Street entrance.
Palms
A collection of approximately 450 species have been planted. Most are located near or in the Rainforest Gully.
Rainforest Gully
Waterfall and ponds provide a setting for an established rainforest with an under storey of palms and shade plants. Walk on the boardwalk through the Rainforest loop to see these magnificent trees.
Children's evolutionary playground
This award winning playground is a refreshing, safe and shady retreat where children and parents can enjoy quality family time.
Native Top End plants
Planted throughout the Gardens, but particularly in areas such as the open woodland.
Baobab collection
You can see all the baobab species in the Woodland section of the Botanic Gardens.
Mangroves and coastal plants
These are the basis of the Garden's collection on the beach side of Gilruth Avenue. There is a boardwalk which forms part of a walking track to the Museum.
The former Wesleyan Methodist Church
This unique prefabricated church was designed, constructed and erected on Knuckey street, Darwin in 1897. It is the oldest church building in the Northern Territory. In 2000 the church was moved and reconstructed at the Gardens. It is located at the Gardens Road entrance.

Orientation Centre: 8:00am to 4.00pm on weekends and public holidays. 8.00am to 4.00pm on weekdays.
Plant Display House: 7:30am to 3.30pm, every day.
